Isaiah 44 compares worshiping the one true God and worshiping idols, and points out the folly of idolatry, but when I read it, the verse that really stood out to me was verse 20: "He feeds on ashes; a deluded heart has led him astray, and he cannot deliver himself or say, 'Is there not a lie in my right hand?'" The question I must constantly ask myself is this: Am I feeding on ashes or the Bread of Life?
Although this almost seems like some of God's humor coming out, it strikes a very serious tone when considering true worship and devotion to God. This is one of my favorite passages as well, because in it (and the chapters around it), God continually calls His people's attention to Himself and pleads for their hearts to be softened to His Spirit. The same message is applicable to us, as believers, today. God's will for us is that we be conformed to the image of Christ and love Him with our whole being. Praise the Lord!
